The municipality of Calima-El Darién is recognized as
the main tourist destiny of the vallecaucanos by its matchless scenery,
climate and diversity of activities that can be developed in their
territory and the dam of Calima, that has strong and constant winds all
the year with speeds of 45 knots which catalogues it like one of the 3
lakes with faster winds of the world and the faster one of America, in
which are developed a variety of nautical sports.

Is popularly known as Calima lake, is at 1400 mts
from the sea level, measures 13 km in length and 1.5 km wide. It’s
purpose is the generation of electrical energy, the form to store energy
in this hydroelectric plant is keeping the water in their dam.
In this dam several people practice a great variety
of nautical sports like windsurf, kitesurf, sunfish, lasser, catamaran,
diving, nautical ski, speedboat racing. The municipality has an
important supply of schools specialized in these sports. |

Thanks to the landscaping, topological and climatic characteristics of
the region, our visitors practice a great variety of sports but being
practiced after the nautical sports, the mountain biking, route cycling,
sender’s walk, athletics, motocross, and others. |

It
has an exhibition module, a laboratory of archaeology, two houses of
room for investigators, one office, ornamental gardens with plants,
native trees and a zone of pre-Hispanic huts replies; this promotes and
discloses archaeological investigations of
the region, on a cultural patrimony preserved by the
vestiges obtained in the systematic excavations.
Visitors will find a valuable collection of
archaeological pieces obtained in the last 20 years of scientific work.
